U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree is encouraging the USDA to broaden its focus beyond cotton and support a wider range of natural fibers as part of efforts to strengthen domestic textile manufacturing. The proposal highlights growing interest in expanding opportunities for wool, flax, hemp and other fibers that could help diversify and rebuild the nation’s textile supply chain.
