Bolstering the Biden Administration’s efforts to put American manufacturing back on the map, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has announced the launch of a Section 301 duty exclusion process for certain manufacturing machinery made in China. In keeping with the president’s direction, the USTR-driven process covers specific equipment deemed essential to domestic manufacturing. Aimed at boosting the onshore production of a number of critical industrial products like solar cells, the list also includes spinning, knitting, weaving and sewing machines integral to the activities of the textile industry.
