The United States produces just 2% of the clothing its citizens wear. The remaining 98% is imported – despite the fact that we are one of the largest apparel consumers in the world, responsible for an estimated 25% of global apparel purchases and 35–40% of global luxury consumption. That means we’re not just buying clothing – we’re fueling the global fashion economy, while outsourcing almost all the value creation.
